In September 2018, AHF launched its efforts in Colombia by opening a Health Provider Institution (IPS in Spanish) in San José de Cúcuta, a key border city with Venezuela and the center of the largest influx of immigrants—many of whom are in search of medical care.

AHF Colombia currently operates offices in Bogotá, Cúcuta, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Riohacha, and Valledupar, where it offers free services including rapid HIV testing, condom distribution, and sexual health counseling. To further expand access to sexual and reproductive health services, AHF Colombia has also opened two Wellness Centers in Maicao and Cúcuta, focusing on areas with high migrant populations and vulnerability to HIV and other STIs.

In addition to those services, AHF Colombia provides rapid tests for syphilis and hepatitis B and C, medical care including ART, and food vouchers for individuals in irregular migration situations.

AHF Colombia continues to work in partnership with local governments, OIM, Cruz Roja, Liga Sida, IPS Vivir Bien, and other organizations to expand service coverage for high-risk populations.

AHF serves as the initial point of contact for thousands of immigrants seeking ARV treatment for HIV in Colombia. In 2015, when the largest wave of Venezuelan migrants entered the country, AHF was the sole organization offering comprehensive care to this population. Four years later, the Governor of Norte de Santander commended AHF Colombia for its humanitarian work and efforts to reduce healthcare access barriers for the migrant population.
